November 21, 2015 - I know its bad form to respond directly to reviews, but FretPet is not abandoned and thinkyhead.com is alive and well! Please visit the website to catch up on our current projects and postings!

FretPet 2 is in development and will be a Free Upgrade for owners of FretPet 1. To celebrate weve cut the price of FretPet 1.x until the release of FretPet 2.0, so now is the best time to get in on the dancing dots & push those GarageBand synths to new limits!

FretPet by Thinkyhead is a musical sequencer centered around the six string guitar. You can use FretPet to quickly build chords, chord progressions, picking patterns, and layered compositions using a variety of musical tools and filters. Interactive playback makes it really easy to refine picking patterns and progressions, so you can quickly find the right musical movement.

Former `Living Colour` guitarist Vernon Reid calls FretPet "The best program geared for guitar... An incredible tool for creation and learning at the same time! I cant wait to use it in Live, Logic, and Nuendo!"

Check out all these features:

• Live interactive fretboard
• Horizontal, vertical, lefty, righty, reverse-strung...
• Automatically finds good fingerings
• Continuous playback while editing/performing
• Tempo from 30 BPM to 600 BPM
• Roman notation mode
• Several guitars included (or make your own!)
• Playback animations
• 22 guitar tunings - and re-tune yourself
• Several modes and scales
• Chord, Circle, Piano, and Info floaters

Several output options are wired in. You can use FretPet as a live multi-channel MIDI controller, play music directly through the built-in AU Synth, or use it as a controller for an endless variety of software and external synths. Your compositions can be exported as Standard MIDI Files or legacy QuickTime music movies.

FretPet makes a great controller for external synthesizers and software synths like Absynth, FM7, and GarageBand. In conjunction with MIDI processors like ReMIDI you can produce some really far-out sounds.

Chords naturally sound good on stringed instruments, which is why composing with FretPet is so quickly rewarding. And if you keep your guitar by the computer, all the better! Enter your song directly on the fretboard and then just play along or practice your lead part. Its oh-so-much better than a metronome.

If you like randomness and messing with syncopation, youll love FretPet filters. Transpose, harmonize, clone, and perform other operations on groups of chords in several voices. Randomization options produce all kinds of unexpected and interesting results. Whole compositions have been known to be created by accident playing with filters.

FretPet was originally spawned as a reference for the basics of chords, scales, and harmonies. FretPet helps you find chords that work together and progressions that lead where you want them to go.
